Projection ScreensWith the vast variety of Projection screens available, it is important to choose the correct one. Even for a high quality projector the image is only as good as the screen.
There are different types of Projector screens.
Manual Wall Screens
These are permanently mounted on the wall or ceiling in your chosen location. When not in use the screen can be rolled back up inside its own casing.
Aspect Ratio : The three ratios that are 1:1 (square), 4:3 (video format) and 16:9 (widescreen).
Electric screens
These are permanently mounted on the wall in the meeting room. When not in use the screen rolls back up inside its own casing. Electrically operated screens roll down and retract at the touch of a switch or can be controlled via remote control.
Aspect Ratio : The three ratios are 1:1 (square), 4:3 (video format) and 16:9 (widescreen).
Tensioned screens
These electric screens have tensioning wires either side in order to achieve a flatter surface compared to conventional screens.
Portable screens : Pull up screens are easy to erect, they roll up into a lightweight tube that is easy to carry. These screens can be stood on the floor or table top.
Tripod screens are free standing screens that can be taken to different locations; typically not as portable as a pull up screen or table screen and are harder to setup. The mobile presenter would be better with a portable screen.
Screen Size : The aspect ratio of the image from a data projector is 4:3 (width x height). Unless otherwise stated, the size of a screen is often stated as the length of the diagonal. For example a 5' screen would be 4' wide and 3' high. Choose your screen size with care. A large screen may need a more powerful projector and subdued light. Don't put a large screen in a small room.
Screen fabric technology : Diffusion screen fabric; Standard Matt white. Diffusion screens spread the projected light evenly over a wide viewing area. Is the ideal choice for any application which requires a wide viewing angle or when ambient light is controllable.
Reflective screen fabric : Datalux, Pearlescent. Gain is obtained using a special coating that reflects light over a small viewing area. Light rays projected on the screen are reflected like a mirror, so that light arriving at a certian angle from the top will be reflected at an equal and opposite angle to the bottom.
Ideal for situations where ambient light cannot be controlled. Because of the relective properies, this screen fabric is well suited when projectors are ceiling mounted .
Retro-reflective screen fabric : Retro-reflective screen fabrics have a surface which is impregnated with tiny glass beads producing a reflected image of unequaled brightness. With retro-reflective screen fabrics most of the light is reflected back to the source.
Ideal for situations when theres a high amount of un-controllable ambient light.
Best results are achieved when the projector is positioned on the same level as the audience, because most of the light is reflected back along the same path.
Reversa Screens : Solid rear projection screens that obtain record breaking gain values. Designed to be used anywhere including in bright sunny conditions.
