What is NavPix ?
Is a picture worth a thousand words? When it comes to navigation, we believe it is.
That thought led us to the creation of NavPix™, our image-based approach to finding your way to a destination.
This combination of a highly useful feature with advanced GPS
technology introduces you to a completely new way to navigate –
navigation by pictures, only from Navman.
Picture, touch go Instead of text and numbers to set an address when route planning,
NavPix lets you use images to select the destination. So you enjoy a
much easier way to choose where you want to go.
But NavPix is much more than simplified navigation – it can change the way you navigate forever.
The NavPix technology combines a digital image with highly accurate
geographical information to create an exact, unmistakeable way to
choose a destination when calculating a route with your Navman.
What’s more, you can create your own geo-referenced NavPix, so you
could use a logo, portrait or even a random picture to symbolise an
actual destination.
Picture yourself there You create NavPix images either by taking a picture using the
integrated camera on your Navman or by using the NavPix software on
navman.com to add geographic information to one of your own pictures.
You
can also download NavPix from the Navman website, find them on other
sites or even share them via email. So you can select the image that
best identifies a specific destination, without having to remember long
or complicated addresses.
Share and download
As well as changing how people navigate, we also thought that it
would be good to share NavPix. So the personalised, online NavPix album
lets you share NavPix with other NavPix users.
What’s more, NavPix can make your working life easier, as there is
no confusion over locations as you will see exactly what you are
looking for on your Navman.
But that’s just the starting point for NavPix – now discover how NavPix will change the way you navigate forever.
NavPix defines a completely new way to navigate, by using images rather than long and complicated addresses.
The
NavPix technology is based on highly accurate geographic information
being included as part of the data stored with a photographic image.
For example, who knows the exact address of the Eiffel Tower, the Tower
of London or the Brandenburg Gate? But we all know what they look like.
By
combining images with geo-referencing, NavPix lets you use images, such
as the Eiffel Tower, as points of interest (POIs). You can then use
those NavPix images when planning routes on your Navman device. Creating NavPix
There
are two ways to make a NavPix – take a digital picture with the
integrated camera on your Navman or use the NavPix software on one of
your own digital images.
When you create the NavPix, longitude and latitude information is included within the image data.
If
you take a NavPix on your Navman, your exact location is identified by
our GPS navigation and recorded. That information is then included with
the NavPix image data, as well as the location’s address and postcode.
What’s more, you can share NavPix just as you would any other digital image.
Pioneering approach to GPS
NavPix
is the result of our desire to establish a new, pioneering approach to
GPS navigation. It began when we applied our thinking to how we could
integrate a camera into our GPS devices – and what the benefits of that
integration would be.
From that, we developed the NavPix
software to ensure that the integrated camera is a key part of your new
navigation experience.
And when you start using NavPix, you’ll discover your own way to navigate, as you start navigating to pictures.
How to do it ?
Creating a NavPix is as easy as pressing a button on your Navman.
Take
a picture using the Navman’s integrated camera and our GPS navigation
system works out the exact location of where that image was taken.
The
NavPix software then takes that information and combines it with the
digital image to create the NavPix image. That image can then be
navigated to – or used as a favourite on your Navman GPS navigation.
Themed collections
You can upload NavPix images to your own NavPix albums on the Navman website.
Those
albums can be used to store themed NavPix collections, for example, so
helping you to plan routes or share similar NavPix with other NavPix
users.
You can also download NavPix from other libraries, as well as explore and buy unique NavPix content created by our partners.
Automatic conversion
What’s more, you can create your own NavPix without taking a NavPix on your Navman.
The NavPix software available on the Navman website lets you turn digital images you already have into geo-referenced NavPix.
Simply
upload the image to the Navman website, add address, postcode and
description information, and the NavPix software automatically converts
it into a NavPix, complete with the correct geographical information.
If
you know the longitude and latitude, you can use that information
instead of the address when converting your image to a NavPix.
NavPix albums
Your
NavPix libraries let you store your NavPix images online, and also let
you share them with friends, family and other NavPix users.
You’ll also be able to see other Navix libraries and download NavPix to your Navman.
What’s
more, you’ll be able to search for NavPix online, so you can find the
ideal NavPix to help you plan your next route, wherever you want to go.
At work
NavPix
opens up an innovative, yet highly efficient way to capture important
location-specific information at the touch of a button.
When
a NavPix is taken using the integrated camera on your Navman, it
automatically calculates the exact location of where that picture is
taken based on our reliable GPS.
The NavPix software then
combines that geographical information with the digital image data,
providing an accurate and unmistakeable way to reference a particular
location.
NavPix images, therefore, ensure that you can quickly
and easily find your way back to a specific spot – or provide
colleagues with all they need to navigate to that destination.
Share with colleagues
You
can share NavPix with colleagues using the Navman website – or even by
letting them take the Navman itself, as it is quickly and easily
swapped between vehicles.
And as you can use any compatible
image as the basis for a NavPix, you can use company logos, customer
portraits or even pack shots, for example, to ensure you have a
memorable NavPix.
NavPix of locations
You
could also provide customers, clients, partners or suppliers with
NavPix showing all your locations or outlets, for example, for them to
install on their own NavPix-compatible Navmans.
They will then
be able to discover navigation to pictures – and ensure that they can
immediately identify where they are supposed to be without wasting any
time or effort finding their way there.
